Artisan Entertainment yanked a print from the Esquire Theater in Cincinnati after the distributor discovered that the theater edited the film without permission. Artisan distributed ``The Center of the World'' without a rating from the Motion Picture Assn. of America because the filmmakers did not want to edit the film's graphic sexuality.FILMTEKNIK: inspelad på DV och överförd till film.

"I?ve always wanted to make a film about sex,? Center of the World's director Wayne Wang says. ?In college, in the 1970s, I loved movies like I Was Curious Yellow and Last Tango in Paris.? Once Wang had his film degree and found work at the film production company of Golden Harvest in Hong Kong, he was offered but turned down the job to make softporn films for Japanese and Korean audiences. "I didn?t end up doing it because I got another job, but it?s always been in the back of my head,? comments Wang. The idea for Center crystallized when Wang paired up with a journalist and investigated the burgeoning San Francisco dot-com industry. There the duo found a starting correlation between these high-tech executives and the world of sex. "I learned there was a whole subculture within the business that hangs out at strip clubs and spends a lot of money there, especially when venture capitalists take them out; a lot of business gets done there. I talked to a lot of dot-commers and a lot of dancers from the different clubs. And from there I built this story.?
